A native of Toronto, Sonia Rodriguez studied dance in Madrid with Pedro de la Cruz and at the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco. She joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1990 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2000.

Recently, Ms. Rodriguez made her debut as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow. She has also danced principal roles in Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Manon, The Winter’s Tale, La Fille mal gardée, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Nijinsky, Anna Karenina, Hamlet, A Streetcar Named Desire, Song of the Earth and Opus 19/The Dreamer. Her repertoire includes numerous George Balanchine ballets, including Apollo, Mozartiana, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, Theme and Variations, Serenade, The Four Temperaments and Diamonds and Rubies from Jewels, as well as in works by contemporary choreographers such as Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, John Neumeier, Wayne McGregor, Jorma Elo and Crystal Pite. Ms. Rodriguez has had a number of roles created on her, including the title role in Cinderella, Princess Vasilisa in The Firebird and roles in An Italian Straw Hat and The Four Seasons.

Ms. Rodriguez has held numerous guesting engagements, including the Stars of the 21st Century Gala in New York City, International Ballet Gala in Madrid, Gala of International Dance Stars in Cincinnati, International Ballet Festival of Miami, Houston Ballet Gala and the FestivALL Dance Gala in Charleston, West Virginia. In 2005, she danced the role of Dulcinea in the world premiere of Suzanne Farrell’s re-staging of Balanchine’s Don Quixote at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

In 2017, Ms. Rodriguez was the recipient of the Rolex Dancers First Award for her role as Blanche DuBois in the Canadian premiere of John Neumeier’s A Streetcar Named Desire. In 2014, Ms. Rodriguez was named one of “The 100 Spaniards” being honored for her success abroad and was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2012. In 2011, she was honoured with Spain’s Officer’s Cross of the Civil Merit and wrote her first children’s book, T is for Tutu: A Ballet Alphabet.

Mysensei mentors are the world’s top coaches, ballet masters, teachers, and professional ballet dancers.

You can book any type of a dance class your mentor offers, e.g., ballet conditioning, ballet class, coaching, pilates. If you don’t see the type of a ballet class listed in your mentor’s profile, let us know and we will try to organize it for you.

On the mentor’s page, choose the type of private ballet class you’d like to take online, then pick a date and a free time slot and fill in your details. Leave a comment if you have questions or specific needs.

“After the payment is made the mentor gets notified and will confirm his/her availability or propose a new time. You will be notified via email. You will also have the option right after booking to add an apointment to your calendar that will remind you of the class.

The confirmation email will contain a zoom link, that you’ll use to access your class.

Note, that you need to have the Zoom desktop or mobile app installed to attend your online ballet class.”

When it’s time to start the class, please, use the link from your email to start the online meeting with your mentor via Zoom.

“You may cancel your online class up to 24 hours before the start of the class and will get a full refund. Just send us an email with the details to info@mysensei.me.

If you decide to cancel your class less than 24 hours before the start of the class, the cost of the class unfortunately cannot be refunded.

You may also reschedule your class if you give us at least 24 hours notice at no extra cost. Just send us an email with the details to info@mysensei.me.
